Statement by Karen National Union (KNU) | November 14, 2016

The KNU 15th Congress CSC 5th meeting was successfully held from October 31 to November 10, 2016. The meeting was attended by 48 by 52 CSC members and 4 specially invited persons.

At the CSC meeting, reports on activities of the KNU performed in the four-year period, and the basic policies, principles and work programs laid down by the KNU 15th Congress, were reviewed and corrected as necessary.

Additionally, the Constitution of the Karen National Union was reviewed and amended as necessary.

Deliberations were made on the ongoing peace building process for internal peace in Burma, the holding of the Union Peace Conference, or 21st Century Panlong Conference, the Framework for Political Dialogue and the procedure for holding national level political symposiums.

Discussions were made and decisions were taken regarding the preparations that had to be made for convening the coming Karen National Union (KNU) 16th Congress.

The Karen National Union would like to state that it would establish the democratic federal union by resolving the political problems by political means through dialogue.
