United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC), March 28, 2015

1. We all know that members of the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC), together with fraternal ethnic armed resistance organizations, have been endeavoring by various means, with the specific intent of ending over 60-year-long civil war in Burma/Myanmar and resolving the political problems, through round-table talks and consultations with successive governments, and now the Nationwide Ceasefire Coordinating Team (NCCT) and the Union Peace-making Work Committee (UPWC) are holding talks for realizing the signing of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement.

2. In every such negotiation process, the UNFC has usually seen disappointingly the occurrence of some other unexpected problem to choke up dialogue or change the track of dialogue, just as the negotiation is gathering momentum.

3. Currently as well, the meeting officially again of the NCCT and UPWC, after a break of 6 months, and while striving for the speedy realization of NCA and discussing the reduction of ferocity of armed clashes in Northern Shan State and Kachin State, as the escalation of war not only on the ground but also from the air recurred, the current negotiation is to no avail, with much loss of time and energy, and with great disappointment the UNFC is of the view that the peace hoped for by the people of Burma and the international community will still be distant.

4. Accordingly, the UNFC calls on the government, the parliament and Tatmadaw (the Armed Forces) to have sincere love and goodwill for the country, care always for affairs of the people and to join hands honestly with the people, comprising of the various ethnic nationalities, and seriously value resolving all the various problems patiently through dialogue, at the round table, and to immediately halt the armed clashes, taking place all over the country.
