All positions are run by volunteers until Burma Link secures sufficient funding.

Volunteers are expected to conduct other tasks as requested, also depending on the volunteer’s skills, experience and interests. These can include, but are not limited to, online research, data analysis, accounting, fundraising, interviewing, transcribing, writing, editing, and assisting with daily office administration.

 

SHORT TERM POSITIONS

The Fundraising and Communications Officer will be responsible for implementing practices as stated in the advocacy and fundraising strategy. This includes enhancing the visibility of Burma Link through creative campaigns via social media and community outreach initiates. The role will also include seeking funding outlets to ensure that Burma Link can continue to work towards advocating the voices of marginalized ethnic and displaced communities. The intern will continuously research new developments, news and publications by Burma Link’s partners and other relevant media and organisations. The intern will conduct systematic media monitoring of Burma Link’s focus areas and produce monthly situation updates based on current developments. The intern is expected to read a significant amount of reports and other publications to develop an understanding of the situation inside Burma and on the Thailand-Burma border, particularly with regard to Burma’s ethnic nationalities and displaced persons along the border. The intern will assist with transcribing, writing/editing stories and articles for publication, and producing monthly newsletters. The intern will edit Burmese-English language translations and update Burma Link’s website with new publications and posts. The AOC/ELLS Training and Outreach Intern is responsible for examining Burma Link’s AOC/ELLS Training Curriculum and Program, and identifying potential avenues and partner-organizations for using the program in effective and creative ways, for example through identifying potential partnering organisations in the field of education, locally and internationally that would be interested in carrying out the training. The intern should also be prepared to act as a point person for the AOC/ELLS program, to occasionally conduct trainings, train trainers, and to adjust and edit the training materials as needed.  The intern will also assist in developing a monitoring and evaluation mechanism for the program and cooperate with local partners to develop the program into a module available for teachers and trainers on the Thailand-Burma border and in Rangoon. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and managing Burma Link’s volunteers. This includes maintaining communication with potential volunteers, screening and selecting candidates, and maintaining an up-to-date database of volunteers and dates of availability. The Membership Officer is responsible for recruiting and managing members for Burma Link. The post-holder develops and runs a database for Burma Link’s members and ensures that the database in confidential and continuously up to date. The post-holder also ensures that all members receive their membership benefits and that the Board constantly has access to an updated member contact information so that all members can be informed of the organisation’s meetings in due time. The Coordinator of Public & Media Communications is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the communications strategies and programs for Burma Link; enhancing the visibility of Burma Link and enabling us to maximise our impact by communicating key messages to our world-wide audience through the use of digital and print media. The post-holder equips and supports us in effectively planning and using digital communications, including the website and social media in all areas of our work.

Depending on the skills and experience of the post-holder, this position can be geared more towards (1) marketing or (2) public communications. (1) The post-holder acts as a design lead and branding guardian for the majority of online and printed publications. (2) The post-holder is responsible for cultivating public and media relationships; disseminating information to local organizations, solidarity groups and international actors; assisting with managing the social media presence of Burma Link; and preparing and delivering presentations to the public, media, key stakeholders, and other interested audiences. LONG TERM POSITIONS

Responsible for managing Burma Link’s English website and, together with the Program Director, maintaining links with international and local organisations. The post-holder is responsible for continuously researching new publications and developments in Burma and on the Thailand-Burma border, regularly updating background information and collection library on the English website as well as reviewing and editing comments and posts submitted to the website in English. The post-holder works in close cooperation with the Burma Coordinator to ensure the compatibility of both sites and that both post-holders are constantly aware of current issues and developments affecting the people of Burma. The post-holder oversees interviewing and storytelling activities in English and also selects the posts to be translated from English to Burmese. The post-holder occasionally conducts interviews and writes stories, articles, and other publications. Minimum six months’ commitment is expected. Download full description here.

The post-holder is responsible for continuously researching new publications and developments in Burma and on the Thailand-Burma border, regularly updating background information and collection library on the Burmese website as well as reviewing and editing comments and posts submitted to the website in Burmese and Karen. The post-holder works in close cooperation with the International Coordinator to ensure the compatibility of both sites and that both post-holders are constantly aware of current issues and developments affecting the people of Burma. The post-holder occasionally assists other staff with translation and interpretation, and conducts interviews to be used for stories, articles, and other publications.
